Queen Charlotte of Malquar has a talent. She’s already helped two of her children find mates, and now she’s convinced her daughter’s new secretary would be a perfect partner for her remaining single son.

Agnes Dupuis has a plan. She’s going to work for the royal family for a couple of years before opening her own upscale employment agency. When she starts her job with Princess Aubrey, she knows everything is on track. After a short time, she gets transferred to the crown prince’s staff, and she couldn’t be more ecstatic.

At thirty-five, Prince Andrew knows it’s past time for him to find a bride. Unfortunately, it’s a nearly impossible task. While he would like to marry for love, it doesn’t look like that will be an option. His future wife will be queen one day and she must have all the necessary skill sets to thrive in that role.

Sparks fly when Agnes and Drew start to work together. Drew fights his attraction for his new secretary as hard as he can. Meanwhile, Agnes doesn’t know what she’s doing wrong. She can’t seem to do anything to make the prince happy.

Will Queen Charlotte be responsible for another match? Or are Agnes and Drew destined to forever butt heads.

Find out in the deliciously fun sixth installment of the Seven Brides for Seven Mothers Series.

I’m not quite sure how it’s come to pass that I’m lying on the floor in Andrew’s closet, but that’s exactly where I am. If I had to speculate, I might guess that my heel got stuck in the fibers of the rug. Feeling around, I realize the rug is Oriental and the pile is so short and tight, it’s unlikely I tripped.

Finnley hurries to kneel next to me. “Are you unwell?” He sounds concerned and almost solicitous, which has not been the nature of our brief discourse. He’s really mad that I’ve called him out on his job performance.

“I don’t know. I think?” I reach up to touch my hand to my head and discover a goose egg forming.

Before I can say anything else, Andrew walks into the room and looms over me. “Did you knock her over, Finnley?” he demands, sounding worried and impressed at the same time.

“Sir?” The valet jumps to his feet. “Of course not. Why would you even think …”

Andrew squats next to me while answering, “She’s very opinionated. I thought you might have had enough.”

“Enough to hit her?” Poor Finnley.

“I was just teasing. Now …” He stares at me. “What happened?”

“I … I don’t know. I just got dizzy and went down like a ton of bricks,” I tell him.

“I’m not sure I’d say a ton of them, maybe ten. You’re awfully slim.” He gently touches the top of my head. “Are you hurt?”

“I hit my head on your accessory console.” Seriously, the man has enough trinkets for a small village of dandies.

“In that case”—he turns to Finnley—“please call for the doctor.”

“What? No! I don’t need a doctor. I’m not bleeding, and I feel fine everywhere else.”

He eyes me intently. “At the very least, let me call someone to take you home.” Andrew is still wearing his robe and it’s all I can do not to grab ahold of the waist tie and accidentally pull it to get a better look at him. I must have really knocked myself silly. That is not something I should be thinking.

“Agnes, can you hear me?” Andrew repeats.

“No. I mean, yes. I mean, no. I don’t need to go home and yes, I can hear you.”

“When is the last time you ate?” My stomach answers for me by growling like a fighter jet flying overhead. Andrew’s eyes pop open wide in surprise. “Yesterday afternoon, I think ...”

“Are you on some kind of starvation diet?” he asks, sounding appalled.

“I wasn’t particularly hungry last night, and I had to be to work so early this morning, I didn’t have a chance to eat.” Take that.

He scoops me up into his arms. “In that case, why don’t you join me for breakfast? My meal has just been delivered.”

“I don’t think …” My stomach growls again, forcing me to change my answer. “That would be nice, thank you.”

As he lifts me up, I close my eyes and inhale the spicy scent of him. He smells like cloves and oranges with a hint of nutmeg. In other words, he smells delicious. Edible, even. I release an unconscious groan which seemingly prompts Andrew to say, “You can go now, Finnley.”

Lifting my lids slightly, I watch as the valet stares at us with a look of horror. “We’re only going to eat. We’re not going to ravish each other,” I tell him. As soon as the words are out of my mouth, ravishing Andrew is all I can think about. My face heats up to a feverish degree.
