I work with aliens, my best friends is held hostage, and everyone wants to murder me before the Lord Prince can magically bond to share my power?
If I had known an illegal drone race would lead to murder, kidnapping, and lies, then I might have thought better about the giant prize of credits, and the dream of walking again.
I never met my best friend in person until a drone race gone wrong had both of us vying for our lives against a secret alien society. To make matters worse… my boss was one of them, and I couldn’t decide if he was trying to save my life, or the reason I was in trouble to begin with.

EXCERPT:
“I was saying, it's time for you to empty your pitiful excuse of a savings account and use your superhuman piloting skills to win the only thing you've been obsessing about since obsessing became a game on Tuesdays. On the note of obsession, usually you're super bored at work, where were you today? Please tell me you were with whoever I heard earlier. I would give both nuts to have him talk to me all day.”
“It wouldn't be worth it. Whatever nonexistent nuts you have would be wasted on listening to him talk about how you almost measure up, and broody silent treatments with skeptical stares that would make your mother roll in her grave. I don't recommend it.”
“Speak for yourself. I'd take my chances. Tell me he's as dreamy to look at as he sounds.”
Ignoring her I redirected her attention back to the main course, “Is there a race this week?”
“You need to start checking your emails!”
“I've told you, notifications like that will ruin your life. I won't be a slave to technology like you. Every ding of attention from advertisers, and random people I don't even know giving my body an unnatural shot of endorphins that should be reserved for actual human contact.”
“Whatever, save your freedom speeches for after you practically steal the chance of a lifetime away from snobby rich kids that don't even need it.”
“Are you saying what I think you're saying?”
Kelly was the reason I even got into illegal drone races. She started off blackmailing me when I stole her family's drone. If I won a race for her, she'd keep the winnings and forget about calling the police on me. I didn't win that race, but I did make her money by beating the person she actually made the side bet with her. She was the one that won the race herself, and I had enough info on her to ensure mutual destruction should she have decided to turn me in.
She quickly turned into the best friend I never knew I needed, and all of this without ever actually meeting her in person. All of our communications have been through links.
“Read my lips you handsome devil. AM.BU.LAR.GOing straight to the finish before all those other trust fund suckers.”
“I love it when you call me handsome.”
“You love it more when I tell you I already dumped my whole life savings into getting us invites!”
“Wait... what?” I mean, her whole life savings really wasn't much, considering I didn't even realize she knew what the word save meant.
“AM.BU.LAR.GO. AM.BU.LAR.GO,” she chanted.

ReplyDeleteWhoo! To a new adventure together!
DeleteCongratulations on the book release. This sounds like a wonderful story.
ReplyDeleteHow long was the writing process?
ReplyDeleteThat's a tough question to quantify, the book started on Wattpad as a LitRPG, and then I completely started from scratch and rewrote the whole thing, then a year of editing before it was contracted with an indie press and a year from that makes it to today 🥰. Haha
Deletethis sounds like a wonderful book
ReplyDeleteI love the purple couple and handsome couple

ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing it with me and have an awesome week!
Sounds like a good book. I like the excerpt and cover.
ReplyDeleteWhat inspires you to write books?
ReplyDeleteWhew another tough question. I think the best way to answer that is to say I'm inspired by all kinds of things. This book started as a LitRPG to explore the idea of being sucked into a real magical realm connected by VR to this one, but then I kept all the characters and scrapped the original concept to become this new idea of a future world with neural implants and a real magical alien society hidden amongst us.
DeleteI get ideas from all kinds of places but it all starts off with a question of what if, and tangents from there. 😆
I am so loving the cover of this and it sounds super good.
