Her voice saved him once…. Is he strong enough now to return the favor?
Following the mine's collapse, Damien Cross lay between life and death, drifting in and out of consciousness in the makeshift hospital bed. Suddenly a voice captured his attention – a woman was singing. It was the most beautiful song he’d ever heard. The lyrical notes stirred something deep inside of him, willing him to live. If he could just hang on to the angel’s voice a little longer…
Five years have passed since that fateful day, and Damien can no longer stand to be confined anywhere – or beholden to anyone. He much prefers the company of horses to humans. However, in his dreams he still hears the voice of the angel, like a salve for his bitter, broken heart. One day as he is walking past the town's saloon on his way to the bank, the sounds of music within drifts outside, and a woman begins to sing. Shocked, Damien recognizes her voice – his angel.
Violet Lovelace is struggling to make ends meet following the carriage accident that claimed the life of her father and left her mother in a wheelchair. Teaching voice lessons to children isn’t enough to pay for the pain medication her mother so desperately needs. When Violet is offered a job singing at the local saloon, she accepts despite her misgivings. But what other choice does she have?
Join Damien and Violet on their journey of discovering the light of hope in the throes of darkness and the triumphant power of love.

EXCERPT:
“Come on, Hank,” said a lanky man with shaggy brown hair. “Leave it alone.”
“I’ll bet you’re just jealous,” the young miner continued, dismissing his friend’s plea to back off with a wave. “I saw you limping out on the street before you came in here. You’re a cripple. You wish you had what it took to mine for gold like we’re going to do. We’re going to be rich thanks to our youth and strength, and then we’ll find out who’s boss ‘round these parts.”
Damien took a step forward, challenging the impudent man and his ignorant talk with his towering form. He stood a full head and shoulders above the blonde, and despite the fact that he walked with a limp, he knew he was still strong and well-muscled enough to be imposing.
“You’re a fool,” he seethed, trying to keep his anger in check. “And you’ll find out the truth about mining soon enough,” he added bitterly.
“Settle down, Cross,” Nathaniel called from the front. “I won’t have fighting in my store. I’ll fetch the Sherriff if I need to.”
Glancing up, Damien noticed that the other customers who were previously standing in line next to him had backed away. They stood at a distance and eyed him warily, their previous friendly chatter stopped. The woman with the big hat was biting her lip and looking to the door. A wave of disgust washed over him. He hated three things: being confined indoors, crowds of people, and attention. And somehow, he was now directly in the middle of all three.
“Sorry, Nathaniel,” he said gruffly. “Don’t mean to cause trouble.”
Conscious of being watched, Damien backed away from the group of young men and set down the crate of goods he’d wished to buy on a table. He tipped his hat to the store owner before he let himself out, the sound the silver bell over the doorframe punctuating his exit.
