EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:

At nighttime, it is a habit of mine to sleep with the music on and close to my ears. At the same time, I could detect the sound of water dripping from the bathroom faucet far from my bedroom.

One day, my strong sense of hearing brought sorrow. Exactly every morning, I was awoken by the sound of an owl hooting outside my house. At first, I thought it could just be a hungry pigeon sound above the roof of my house in the early morning. Based on my understanding, owls are nocturnal. Then I realized the hooting sound kept coming back every morning to wake me up for almost a week. My intuition and my strong sense of hearing confirmed that the clear hooting sound was from an owl, not from a pigeon. Based on spiritual beliefs, hearing an owl hooting is a spiritual sign. My intuition guided me to understand that it was a sign of spiritual warning, an omen that something bad would happen.

Then, a few weeks later in May, my family and I found out from the doctors that my father had acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Based on my father’s age and the type of cancer, the doctor advised that without treatment the chance of survival was only a few months. The news came as a shock to our family, as my father was otherwise in good physical health. My family and I were tearful. The news shattered my soul profoundly. I couldn’t cope, devastated, and my mind felt empty with silent tears. Clearly, the hooting sound from the owl in the morning above the roof of my house was an omen and a spiritual warning. My intuition foresaw something bad would happen, but mentally I wasn’t prepared for something like this. The news fractured me to the core of my soul; all I could rely on were prayers to the Divine for comfort. Hope came along.

My father went through chemotherapy to treat the cancer, and within five months the hospital found a matched donor for the blood transplant to take place in September. But then, without specific explanation from the doctor, the donor couldn’t make it for the blood transplant. My younger brother became the back-up half-matched blood donor. Chemotherapy treatments were rough on my father’s body, and side effects were expected. The blood transplant wasn’t successful due to my brother being a half-matched blood donor. My family and I were devastated to hear the result. As the situation evolved and time passed, all I could rely on was prayer to the Angels and God for a miracle. My father was blessed again by his Angels and God, as the cancer hospital found two matched blood donors. More chemotherapy treatments were required as part of the blood transplant procedure.

My father is a strong soul. His perseverance and resilience help to overcome all challenges. After many lengthy treatments and countless blood draws for testing, there was no sign of AML in his blood. However, more follow-up was required to become cancer free. Our family and I felt blessed again by the Divine.
