Leah Williams is back in the quaint town of Heritage, Michigan, and ready to try again to make her business a success. But blank slates are hard to come by, and a piece of her past is waiting for her there. Heir to the Heritage Fruits company, Jonathan Kensington is the guy who not only made Leah's past difficult, but he also seems determined to complicate her present as well.

In order to avoid forcing a buyout of Leah's building, Jon will have to strike a compromise. Can the two of them work together? Or will their troubled past set the tone for their future?

Tari Faris' Top Five Favorite Tropes

One question I get asked a lot as an author is what my favorite trope is. Well, that is a hard question, so I decided to give you my top five.

5 – Enemies to Lovers – This trope is as classic as Pride and Prejudice itself. I mean who doesn’t swoon over Elizabeth and Darcy slow burn from hating each other to falling in love. The only reason I don’t mark it higher is that it has to be done well. This is a trope that can quickly get annoying with ridiculous fight or be super entertaining when done well. This was the basic trope of Libby and Austin in Until I Met You. It was a blast to write, hopefully fun to read.

4 – Fake Relationship – I know it sounds cheesy, but I am a sucker for a fake relationship romance. But again, super tricky in making it work without making the characters unlikable since they are deceiving those around them. It wasn’t the whole story, but I sneak a little of this in P.S. Goodbye with Caroline and Grant and it was so fun to write.

3 – Unrequited Love – It is defined as not returned or not rewarded. I can’t say I am a fan of the not returned (then it just feels sad) but not rewarded – that gets me every time. I think I fell in love with this trope first in Jane Austen’s Persuasion. You can see Captain Wentworth loves her but refuses to let himself act on it. It also could almost be categorized as the slow burn trope. The romance builds and builds in desire until it is a breaking point and boom, they kiss. You can see this trope in Thomas and Janie in You Belong with Me, with Olivia and Nate in Until I Met You, and Colby and Madison in Since You’ve Been Gone.

2 – Friends to More – They always say that a good friendship is the basis of a good relationship and maybe that is why I love it so much. It doesn’t hurt that my romance with my husband was a friends to more story. You can definitely see hints of my own romance and this trope in Hannah and Luke in You Belong with Me and Gideon and Danielle in While It Was Snowing, and Jon and Leah in Since You’ve Been Gone.

1 – Second Chance Romance – One that I find in all my stories is second chances. God is the God of second chances and third and fourth and . . . Anyway, second chance scenarios seem to sneak over into my romances as well. In fact, of the eight couples that I have written in the Restoring Heritage series, five could be also classified as a second chance romance. Beyond friends to more, my husband and my relationship was definitely a second chance romance. Which is why it lands as my number one.

What about you? What are your favorite tropes and why?
