Banish the demon, stop the prophecy, and do not fall in love. Easy, right? Yeah, not so much.

Mina Donovan is a woman of many talents. Fire elemental, psychic, Legacy witch, magical asset for an FBI paranormal task force…she does it all. Her latest struggle? Not crushing on her sexy best friend. Logically, she knows they can’t be together. Too bad her heart has never bothered with logic.

The friend zone is the last place pyro expert Josh wants to be with Mina. Not that he has any choice in the matter. A witch hunter falling for a witch? Not smart. He’ll just have to learn to ignore his attraction to the gorgeous woman who already owns so much of his heart.

If Mina and Josh have any hope of finding their way to happily ever after, they’ll have to banish an all-powerful demon and take down an evil magical organization. Oh, and they’ll also have to figure out how to stop the prophecy that warns a dragon will consume Mina.

It’ll take more than magic to fix this supernatural dilemma.

EXCERPT:
Josh expected to find boring government suits on this FBI task force. Not Mina standing in a room engulfed in flames. Waves of heat pulsed toward the door. Fire raced in ribbons from the two staked figures to lick the ceiling.

In the center of the blaze, she stared at him like he’d shocked all speech out of her. A first for his never-shuts-up best friend. But he couldn’t think of a damn thing to say.

Gorgeous, funny, reckless Mina. She’d banished him to the friend zone the night they’d met. Not that he could tell her that he was crazy about her. Friendship was a beautiful lie. Unlike the ugly truths he hid from her.

A witch hunter who’d fallen for a witch.

There was no spell in the world to unravel that level of stupid.

The big agent who’d met him at the back entrance had only said “the assets” were training inside this room. The same giant was now conducting a welfare check on the blonde—a welfare check way more personal than any law enforcement protocol should allow.

“Grab an extinguisher,” the agent called to him. The “dumbass” was implied.

Josh pulled an extinguisher off the wall and moved past Mina, who seemed determined to be too close to the fire. “Come on, let me through. Pyro work is my specialty.” He couldn’t admit that the flames wouldn’t burn him. Everyone knew male witches didn’t have active powers. But he wasn’t all witch.

He turned to the biggest mannequin. Who had designed this torture chamber of burning people at the stake? Before he could think more on that or break the seal on the extinguisher, the fire blinked out.

By itself.

In less than a second.

Impossible.

But not for a one-in-a-trillion fire elemental. Looked like he wasn’t the only one with secrets.

Adrenaline dumped through his body so fast it was like operating with all systems on overload. He fought the ingrained fear that had his pulse racing.

He’d had one message beaten into him since childhood. That magic was real. And its wielders were evil. Loving a witch? Dumb. The psychic powers she’d admitted? Impressive. The ability to manipulate an element? The epic stuff of legends.

His breaths came too fast and stung of smoke. He focused on her eyes. Those beautiful dark eyes that went to black when she was invoking magic. She locked that sorceress gaze on him now in a startled expression that said she’d been as surprised by the powers display as he had.

“I’m not leaving you like this.” He’d wrapped one of her curls around his finger. Had he noticed? His gaze hadn’t left her face.

“I’m good.” Or she would be. Defeat hacker. Overthrow evil organization and its demoness leader. Handle nosy sisters. “You shouldn’t come in if you don’t want to deal with that right now. You could probably text or email any leads on the staff, since we never know when our boss will be in town.”

For a moment, she thought Josh would take off and she might see him again in another six months. She bounced between wanting exactly that and needing him to stay this time.

“Your whole family here?” He wound and unwound her curl around his knuckle.

“What if my grandmothers are in there?” That would be bad. Super bad. She fought another jolt of panic.

He grinned the smile he said he hated because it looked too much like the Joker’s—big and wide. It was the best damn smile. And it was all for her. “Only you would fear your grandmas more than the monsters out there. Scared they’ll draft you for Senate duty?”

She shoved at him. “More like hex me. I don’t sense Ita or Gigi, but they’re good at shielding their thoughts and emotions.” Heading for the house, she made herself not look back. “I’ll see what the damage is. Stay or go. I’ll understand either way.” He might be at the supermodel’s house in the hour. It was for the best, since her scary grannies would have her bartered off to a Legacy son within a year. She was the last on the match market. “It’s always great to see you.”

Even if he would eternally be in the friend zone.
