This book is a compilation of all the poems I have written in my life. Each one comes from a very personal place within me. Some of the poems truly show me at my most fearful, sad, and lonely moments in my life, and others are examples of how I was feeling at a time when I was desperate and lost all hope.
Some are of love, hope, a general wonder or curiosity, and accomplishment, and others came from the experiences of people closest to me.
I have added a page that briefly describes where the inspiration for the poem(s) came from, to help better tell the story. For me, poems and writing became a personal outlet. They have given me a safe way to express my thoughts and feelings.
I hope you enjoy them. If they are at all relatable than that’s even better. I hope that those who read these, and identify with them, will see that no matter how rough life may seem at any given time, it can get better if you just keep going.
Although the poems within these pages may be a bit random and unorganized, as is my life sometimes, they are raw and real. They are as I wrote them at that time.
I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to read any or all of them, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I am sure my Mom will.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:
What is Love?
Is love the twinkle in an eye, a gentle
laugh, a soft sweet sigh?
Is love the flutter of a heart, or a
feeling when you are apart?
Is love the whisper in an ear, or
kindness that is most sincere?
Is love the feeling in a touch, or those
moments that you miss so much?
Is love like dancing in the rain, or is it joy, or is it pain?
Is love faith, mixed with fear, or is
love a longing to be near?
Is love just like a shining star that
feels so close although it’s far?
Is love like heat straight from the
sun, or is it passion, is it fun?
Is love a feeling in the air, or is it in a gazing stare?
Is love crazy, is it blind, is love the
rarest thing you’ll find?
Is love a laugh, is love a tear, is it the
thing you’ll hold most dear?
Is love compassion, a warm embrace,
is it a glow on someone’s face?
Is love like words an angel sings,
carried on an eagle’s wings?
Is love a cuddle, a hug or kiss?
Is love all or none of this?
I saw a sign while walking that simply said... what is love? Anyway, it got me thinking and this is what I wrote. – Trev

ReplyDeletePoems are an excellent way to express thoughts and feelings
ReplyDeleteHi Katie. Thank you for your note. I agree and have found that I could really process my emotions through my poetry. I never actually wrote with any intention of sharing them or writing a book. They flowed from a place within me that I held close and safe.

DeleteHow long was the writing process?
ReplyDeleteHi Deborah. Thank you for your interest and your question. I don't sit and write poetry per se. I only do when something sparks me, and it normally has some strong emotional pull. So I wrote the poems over a course of approx 10 years. I used writing as a way to process my feelings, and/or the feelings that I would often connect to with those close to me. I never had an intention of putting them together in a book or sharing them. I'm happy that I did though. 🙂 Trev

DeleteWhere did you get your ideas/inspiration to write this book?
ReplyDeletedigicats {at} sbcglobal {dot} net
Hi Carolsue. Thank you so much for asking this question. I'll do my best to answer it in short form. Before each poem in the book I have a page that explains what inspired each individual poem. All of my inspiration came from personal experiences or experiences of people very close to me. I only write when I'm completely inspired and it seems that, that, comes at times when I'm having extremely strong emotions. To be very honest I never intended to share most of these with anyone, ever, let alone publish them. Sharing them made me feel scared and very vulnerable. It took me some time to finally take the leap and put them in a book and publish. I hope that answer's your question and have a great weekend.🙂 Trev
DeleteI belong to poetry workshops and like how poems convey a feeling, a mood, some emotion usually by subtly going through the senses. It looks like a heartfelt book.
ReplyDeleteHi Sunnymay... thank you for your kind note. I have always thought about joining a poetry workshop or class. I never actually thought of myself as a poet. I just got inspired sometimes and would write down what was in my heart and head. I feel I would really enjoy being a part of a poetry or writing class and community, and I am sure I would get a lot from it. Thanks again for your message and have a great night. 🙂 Trev

DeleteWho's poetry inspires you?
ReplyDeleteHi Tracie. I'm actually mostly inspired by my personal emotional experiences, or by those very close to me. I have a hard time just writing to write. It normally just comes to me when I'm experiencing some hi or low emotional energy. I hope that makes sense for your question.🙂👍 Trev
