Cleo loves bows. She wears her hair in a bow and decorates her room with bows. Cleo is bow crazy. Learning to tie a bow is very difficult for some people but Cleo remembers how to do it from a cute story she once heard. It is about a little rabbit with very long ears and a very helpful fox who shows her what to do to keep them clean. This is the story of how Cleo learns to tie a “bunny ear” bow. Exercises in manual dexterity build self-esteem in children. Knowing how to tie shoestrings, scarves and more into a bow is a useful and rewarding skill. Teach a child a useful skill. Build confidence and self-esteem that lasts a lifetime. Other books in the Learn To Tie With The Rabbit and the Fox series are the book with that name in English, Spanish, and Tagalog plus Nellie Knows How To Knot A Neck Scarf and Ned Knows How To Knot A Necktie.

Sybrina Durant is the author of some fanciful and some factual books. Her writings have inspired several online entrepreneurial ventures. Two of those are the Rabbit and Fox Bookstore and the Girls Love Bows Gift Shop. Spend some time browsing both for some interesting and surprising gift ideas for yourself and others.

Cleo wears a bow sash around her waist, and Oktoberfest girls wear Dirndls.
What is a Dirndl, you ask? It is sort of an apron which has a sash that can be tied with a pretty bow. Lots of ladies wear them to Oktoberfests around the world. Did you know that the position of a bow on the Dirndl sash indicates some interesting things about that girl’s romantic status?
One who wears her bow tied on her right side is indicating that she is married, engaged, or in love. Why the right side? Because German men wear their wedding rings on their right hand!

If a man is hoping for a little flirtation, he’ll look for a bow on a woman’s left side. That bow placement means she’s single.

If a Dirndl bow is tied where it is sitting at the belly button…the lady is indicating that her status is no one’s business. I guess she is playing a little coy.

A bow tied at the back of the apron, could be a sad indication that the lady is a widow. The only other girls who tie their bows at the back are children or Oktoberfest servers.
If all of this wasn’t interesting enough, during the ‘40s in the United States, many girls indicated their relationship status with the placement of their hair bows. A girl wearing a bow on top of her head was looking for love. If it was at the back of her head, it meant she was not looking for love. She was deeply in love if she wore one on the right and if she wore one on the left, it meant she was going steady.
