Strong-willed Elaine Hart is determined to save Hartland Ranch, her family’s California orange groves. After the recent ending of a turbulent relationship, she vows to keep her professional and personal life separate, even though she’s attracted to the man who holds her family’s fate in the palm of his hands.
Serious-minded banker, David Cole, has two goals- collecting on the delinquent ranch account and resisting his attraction to the unpredictable and beautiful Elaine Cole.
When a series of circumstances brings them together, they must decide if they will continue to suppress their emotions or succumb to passion and take a chance on a forever love.

EXCERPT:
She smiles. “You’re nicer than I originally gave you credit for.” She glances down at her phone as it beeps again.
“I could say the same about you. You were pretty intense when you came storming into my office.”
She rolls her eyes and places a hand to her forehead. “Please don’t remind me. I did apologize. Sometimes I get carried away and need to take a minute before I react.” She smooths her bangs. “Morgan is downstairs, waiting for me.” She holds up the phone, as if I need evidence that she has to leave.
“Take my jacket at least.” I remove it from the hall closet; wrap it around her securely, buttoning it and pulling up the collar. “It’s a little big on you, but it will keep you warm.”
“Thank you.” She rolls up the sleeves. “I’ll return it.”
“Promise?” I smile and pull her close, finally pressing my lips against hers and wrapping my arms around her, feeling the warmth of her body as I hold her. When she responds with a soft moan and wraps her arms around my neck, I know my willpower is gone. The longing I feel is reflected back to me when I gaze into her eyes. I place small kisses on her mouth, until it opens and my tongue meets hers, touching and exploring.
“David,” She places her hands on my chest. “I have to leave.” Taking a step backward, she creates distance between us.
“I know.” Placing a finger under her chin, I lift her head, so that she has to look at me. Right now, this feels good… right, even. No troubling thoughts of business, illness, or anything else, just her in my arms.
“Thank you. This reprieve—time away from the hospital—it was just what I needed.” She shakes her head when her cell phone beeps and looks down while reading the screen. Tilting her head to the side and looking at me with her big brown eyes, she says, “Morgan is threatening to come get me if I don’t hurry up.”
“I’ll check on you and your father tomorrow.” I give in to the impulse to run my fingers through the reddish brown curls cascading down her back before I slowly trace the outline of those tender, full lips with my fingertip, their softness as intoxicating as any aphrodisiac. Every part of me aches for her with an urgency I’ve never experienced before.
The minute she’s gone, the condo feels different— too large and too empty which doesn’t make sense since I love this place and everything in it. After all, this is my first home on my own since the divorce. Elaine’s fresh scent lingers. I turn off the kitchen lights and head to my bedroom, where I note that her luscious body has left an imprint on my bed. Damn. How did this woman make her way into my thoughts?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
I've always enjoyed reading and writing and grew up surrounded by a wide variety of books, from westerns to romance novels. I love stories--watching them, listening to them, reading them, and writing them. My contemporary novels include complex and diverse characters that grapple with family legacy, love, loss, and laughter as they face the challenges of life. When I'm not working on my next manuscript, you can find me bike riding along the beach with my husband or exploring the mysteries of the universe with my daughter. I enjoy music, dancing, meditation, and long walks.
