Disillusioned by his wife’s betrayal, rodeo star Dillon McCoy comes home to the mountains of North Carolina to lick his wounds. When he agrees to take over the family ranch, the Lazy M, he’s unaware danger waits.

Diana Thompson is having doubts about her engagement to Trent Sawyer. She agrees to leave Chapel Hill and spend Thanksgiving with her friend Jenn at the Lazy M. When Diana and Dillon meet, neither can deny their attraction, but both must resolve past relationships while fighting their growing desire.

After Dillon turns down an anonymous offer to purchase the ranch, attempts are made on his life. When a body is found, Dillon sets out to discover who wants the McCoy land enough to commit murder.

EXCERPT:
Once she made it to the trees, the snow was deeper. Sinking to her knees, Diana struggled to move quickly. Knowing her trail would be easily followed, she pushed on. Not having a clue where she was going, Diana hoped to spot a landmark she’d recognize from their trail rides. Was Dillon coming? Did he know she was missing? Surely by now he was looking for her. But how long would it take for him to realize she was at the ranch?

Breathless, her hands and feet numb, she wiped tears from her cheeks. Stop it. You have to remain strong to survive. She gritted her teeth. Why had she changed from her sturdy boots to these fancy leather ones. She could almost hear Jenn now, “Girl, what’s the matter with you?”

None of this made any sense. What in the world was she doing lost in the woods in the snow running from a killer?

GUEST POST:
One of the most romantic places my husband, David, and I stayed was Hoo Cottage located in the English Cotswolds village of Chipping Campden. The cozy thatched-roof cottage, modernized on the inside, was built in the seventeenth century. David and I both enjoy old British murder mysteries and Hoo cottage was like stepping back in time. As we rambled through the countryside, passing fields with sheep, stone fences, tall hedgerows, and tiny hamlets, you could easily forget we were actually living in a world of cell phones, computers, and smart TV’s. I expected to see Miss Marple busily clipping her roses.

Each morning we’d set out, baskets on our arms, and stroll into the village. There wasn’t a large grocery store, so we stopped at the bakery, the butcher, and the produce shop. We browsed through an open market, then had afternoon tea at a quaint tearoom. We’d sit in the secluded garden eating homemade cheeses and drinking wine. After preparing dinner, we snuggled close by the fire and read Agatha Christie novels.

To my utter delight, we were able to tour Highclere castle and visit the locations where the outdoor scenes of Downton Abbey were filmed.

Writing this made me want to go back. I looked up Hoo cottage to see if it was still for rent, and to my surprise found it was for sale. Living half the year here in the US and the other half in England is a dream of ours. Here’s my opportunity to own the cottage I love. There’s only one problem, the cost. I’d have to become a famous author and have my books made into movies before this could happen, but one can always dream.
