The hardest stone protects the most precious gems…
Someone is killing dwarves.
Sabine is new to the city of Razadon, a mecca of stone and dwarven magic.
When several clan leaders are murdered in a strange ritual, suspicion falls on the most likely culprits and those newest to the city—Sabine and her companions.
The blood of the ancients can fracture even the strongest stone…
The seals of the Dragon Portal are growing weaker, and Sabine’s running out of time to acquire the remaining artifacts before their world is engulfed in flames.
It’s a race against the clock to find out who’s responsible for the murders and save her friend’s life. But deep within the heart of the mountain, there are some who will do anything to keep Sabine from learning the truth.
Even if it means sacrificing her in the process.

EXCERPT:
Sabine stared at him in disbelief. “Are you that eager to die? You’re talking as though you’ve already given up.”
“Never,” Bane snarled. “I will go down fighting—a true warrior’s death. Life and death are simply alternative sides of a coin.”
She narrowed her eyes. “And I’ve been transmuting coins since I was old enough to walk. I’m not giving up. With or without your help, I’m going to find a way to get you out of here—even if I have to cheat to ensure it happens.”
Bane considered her and then chuckled. “Razadon will likely be turned upside down by the time you get through with them.” He paused, his expression becoming more serious.
“If this does not turn out the way you hope, you must travel to the underworld using the passages below the mountain. Our bond will allow you to find and access the doorway to the underworld, but you must locate it before my execution. Dax will know the moment you cross over into our realm, and he will seek you out.”
Sabine took a steadying breath, refusing to give into her fears. “I’m not giving up on you, Bane. I came here because I wanted your help. You have insight into dwarven culture and their laws. I need your guidance. You’re the only one of us who knows these people.”
When he didn’t respond, she took a step toward him, trying to blink back the tears that threatened. “If the end comes to pass like you expect, you have my word I’ll seek out Dax.” She lifted her hand and pressed it against his cheek. “I still need you, my protector. Help me find a way to save your life. Call it a weakness if you must, but I don’t want to lose you.”
“It’s only a weakness if you ignore what must be done.” Bane lifted his clawed hand and caught one of her tears that had escaped. He studied it with a strange sort of fascination. Lifting it to his mouth, he accepted her offering. His eyes flashed to silver before he closed them as though savoring her pain.
When emotions became their own form of magic, they often spilled in the form of tears. She waited, knowing he needed a moment to gather himself. Demons always felt things more deeply than they admitted. Even so, her tears on his behalf had reinforced the shift of power in their arrangement. His death would hurt her deeply, but he likely hadn’t realized how much until now.
“You have become far too Seelie,” he murmured. “I can taste honeyed sunlight in your tears.”
“You’re wrong,” she whispered, cupping his face. “Look at me, Bane. See me.”
He opened his amber eyes and stared down at her. She sent a pulse of magic along her markings, and her skin glowed.
“I am both, light and dark, Seelie and Unseelie,” she told him, infusing her voice with power. “I am both sides of the coin, life and death. I bound you to me because you understand how easily the coin can be turned—far better than Dax. I need you right now, not your brother.”
She sent a sharp stab of power through her hands and into him. His back went ramrod straight, his eyes shifting to silver again. He growled, causing her skin to prickle in awareness.
She narrowed her eyes on him, refusing to give in to fear. He was hers, bound to obey and protect. But more, he was her friend. “You will help me fight this battle, Bane. I will force you to obey me if necessary, but I will get the answers I seek.”
