Lodging Review: The Katy House Bed & Breakfast in Smithville, Texas

On September 24th, my husband and I will have been married for 12 years! We always try to go away for our anniversary some time in September. Due to my husband's work schedule, we wouldn't be able to go away on our actual anniversary, so I had to book somewhere for earlier in September.
I chose The Katy House Bed & Breakfast in Smithville, Texas. (Shout out to my dad and stepmom for watching our two boys!) We were there from September 4th - September 7th. I chose to book The Katy House because we had been there previously in September 2019 for our anniversary, and we fell in love with the house, the hosts (who are now the owners), and the charm of the small town of Smithville.

Smithville, TX is a very small town near Austin.
Before I brag about The Katy House, I'd like to talk a little about the town of Smithville where the Katy House is located. Smithville is a small town with a big heart. The people are all very nice! Smithville is a picturesque little town, and it was even the setting of the 1998 movie Hope Floats starring Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr. Here recently, it was the filming location for the up and coming series Panic which is based on the book of the same name written by Lauren Oliver. There are some great antique stores as well the Smithville General Store which has many things you can buy including souvenirs of your visit!

Feeling hungry while in Smithville? Worry not for there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance of the Katy House. If you are after some pizza, check out Honey's Pizza. Looking to drink some wine and/or have a nice meal, check out The Front Room. Craving some delicious tacos? Then you will want to check out Carne Lenta where the cows are local, and the meat is processed in house. Carne Lenta doesn't skimp on the meat in the tacos either. I had the barria and carne guisada tacos, and my husband had the barbacoa tacos which were stuffed with meat. They were some of the most tastiest tacos too! Last but not least, our favorite restaurant to go to while staying in Smithville is a comfort food place called Your Mom's. If you are after some extremely tasty food served by some of the nicest people, Your Mom's is the place to visit!

After you've eaten all that food, you can take a stroll around the neighborhood and look at all the gorgeous houses as well as the beautiful scenery. Personally, I love walking around Smithville and taking everything in.

The Katy House sign
My favorite place in Smithville is The Katy House Bed and Breakfast. This is why Smithville, Texas has become mine and my husband's favorite place to go to every year. Although it's been around for awhile, the Katy House was recently purchased by Tiffany and Joe. (If I'm being honest, Tiffany and Joe are the real reason we come back to the Katy House, but more on that later.)  I can't think of one bad thing about this place. Tiffany and Joe have thought of everything to make the Katy House feel like Heaven. I've never stayed at a more relaxing place....and the breakfasts are to die for! They are so delicious! Talking to Tiffany and Joe is like talking to some great friends. Don't take my word for it though. Book one of the amazing rooms or cottages available at the Katy House and see for yourself. (Our favorite room to stay in is the Texas Special. It's roomy, decorated beautifully, and it has an amazing balcony!)

MY REVIEW OF THE KATY HOUSE B&B:
Oh wow, where do I start about this gem of a place? My husband and I first fell in love with the Katy House and its owners back when we stayed for our anniversary in September of 2019. We decided to go back this September, and I'm so glad we did.

The Katy House is nothing short of spectacular, seriously. If Heaven was a place on Earth, The Katy House is that place. The owners, Tiffany and Joe, are the nicest people you will ever meet. They make you feel like you're a really good friend instead of just another guest. They are the most upbeat, positive people around, and they will make sure you are taken care of. In fact, they will go out of their way, if needs be, to make sure your stay is nothing short of excellent.

Tiffany and Joe were just the hosts last time we visited, but now they are the new owners of The Katy House, and we were super excited when we found out they bought the Katy House. Don't get me wrong, the Katy House was fabulous when we visited last September, but Tiffany and Joe have spent their time renovating and updating the Katy House, and now it is beyond fabulous! The rooms have been updated. There are new smart TVs (that are bigger than the old tvs) in the rooms where YouTube TV is available to every guest. If you have Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, etc, you can sign in with your account. This is such a great thing! The beds have more pillows and some rooms even have new furniture. Things have been moved around, and the rooms look amazing!

We stayed in the Texas Special again, and the room looks even more spacious by how they've moved the bed around. The bed is very comfortable, and we love the balcony where they've now put rocking chairs instead of regular chairs there. It's so relaxing to sit on the balcony and watch the world go by.

Our room was so clean and well disinfected! Shelby, the housekeeper, was super nice when we met her, and she also wanted to make sure our stay was beyond excellent. Kudos to her for making sure all the rooms are very clean and disinfected. In fact, the rooms even have their own disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, and hand wipes. (How awesome is that?)

Also included in our room were two Ferrerro Rocher chocolates on a cute little plate. Inside the mini fridge were a bunch of different (name brand) complimentary sodas and water.

Breakfast was nothing short of amazing and is the most tastiest breakfast I've had! The breakfast is even better than what you get in a restaurant. Tiffany and Joe even remembered how I liked my omelette even though we hadn't stayed in a year! There were some guests that wanted their breakfast brought to their room, and Tiffany happily brought it to them. We opted to eat at the big kitchen table though. Tiffany and Joe are happy to work with any dietary restrictions you may have. (Seriously, Tiffany and Joe were just amazing.)

The owners' daughter Addie was also really sweet and helpful. She was recommending places in Smithville to us. They are just an awesome family all around.

If you haven't had a chance to stay at The Katy House B&B, you are missing out big time. This is the best bed and breakfast ever. In fact, this is the best place to stay in the world. Definitely check this place out. Tiffany and Joe definitely make this place feel special. Their upbeat and friendly personalities will keep you coming back. The beautiful house with all its special touches are awesome too!
