She’s the love of his life, the object of his affection. Too bad she doesn’t know it yet.

Isla Montgomery is a normal fan. She supports her favorite K-pop group and swoons over them like every other fangirl. But one Saturday morning her life changes forever when Matoi Jaemin announces to the world that he’s in love . . . and with her, a girl he’s never even met. He isn’t who anyone thought he was, isn’t that same smiling man she’s used to. Jaemin Matoi is a yandere: a delusional, obsessive, lovesick man whose only medicine is Isla.

EXCERPT:
“Jaemin?” she asks him, gaze never leaving the smooth plaster, momentarily comparing it to her cracked one at home.

“Hm?”

“Why do you love me?”

She’s been wondering why it was her of all people that Jaemin decided to “fall in love” with. Maybe there’s some sort of reason, some explanation that will help her figure out how to escape.

He pauses in his actions and turns his head to look at her.

“What a silly question.”

She doesn't say anything.

“It's because you were there for me when no one else was. You stuck around even when I turned my back on myself. It's because you're a beautiful human being with a beautiful soul and every day I wake up and remember you exist and everything stops hurting. How lucky am I to be alive at the same time as you? And there are a million other reasons to go with it and I find more every day.”

Oh how she wishes this were real.

“You should get some rest, Minie,” she says, blinking away the burn in her eyes and resisting the frog in her throat.

She turns off her lamp and he does as well, removing his glasses and pulling her tight against him.

“I love you.”

He falls asleep near-instantly and she sobs quietly, trying desperately not to wake him.

She cries for him. She cries for the beautiful broken boy clinging onto her. She cries for her love for him. She cries for his pain and she cries for herself.
