When Edward’s beloved grandmother dies, she doesn’t just leave behind money. His inheritance includes a father in Italy he never knew he had.

Now he’s forced to navigate a country he doesn’t know, using a language he doesn’t speak, in search of a man who has no clue Edward even exists.

He’s expecting disappointment. He’s expecting anger. He’s expecting pain. But what Edward isn’t expecting is to stumble across the one woman to ever steal his heart … the one woman he can never have.

Edward’s past and future collide, leaving him more lost — and more alive than he’s ever felt before.

EXCERPT:
Like the others, I raised my full glass of murky, blood-red liquid in salute. By the looks of it, I was certain Luigi had whipped the homemade stuff up in a dusty old cellar somewhere on his property, and likely, with prehistoric-aged equipment. The taste would be a fruitier variation of American moonshine—nasty grape-flavored turpentine. On theory alone, my gut protested. I lifted, inhaled, bucking up for the assault on my taste buds, and took a small sip.

It wasn’t all that bad. Stilled by my surprise, I watched as a warm breeze ruffled Ivayla’s hair and dress. If I’d been home, I probably would have been in my basement apartment on the computer. Instead, I was here in an Italian city sharing wine and olives on a warm sunny evening with a local man and a mature, beautiful woman. Heightened by the foreign sights, sounds, and smells, my senses were becoming acutely discriminating, picking up scents and flavors I hadn’t known I was capable of. I felt a deep-found appreciation for it all, even the sharp taste of Luigi Delatorre’s wine.

With a subtle tip of my glass, I smiled.

Thank you, Grams.

Luigi suddenly bucked forward, hitting and shaking the table, and cutting off my prayer to Grams. He muttered something under his breath and waved his hand as if he were shooing away a cat. He bucked again, but this time an animal’s gravelly baying accompanied the motion.

A white goat appeared under the table and head-butted my leg.

“Oh, hey! Stop that!” I’d never been around farm animals and tried to push the animal away, but the crazy beast stood resolute, having none of it.

Luigi clucked his tongue and made frantic shooing motions. “Va’ via! Va’ via!

Another goat, black with white spots, joined the white one in butting my knees. I pulled my legs away, but the goats came out from under the table and kept right on hammering at me. I pushed at one of their heads just as it munched on my pant leg. Its hair felt coarse and gritty under my hand.

“Get away! Va’ via!” I shouted, but the obnoxious goats didn’t seem to understand English or Italian.

Ivayla laughed so hard, she had to hold her sides and did nothing to help. Finally, Luigi stood, ran a few steps, hands waving, and chased them away. He came back sweating and panting.

“Are those yours?” I asked, dusting off my pants.

“Sì. Tilly and Maria. They are ... amichevoli.” He looked to Ivayla for help.

“Friendly. The goats are friendly,” she said, and added with a smirk, “Obviously they like you.”
