C M Bethell

Genre:
Romantic Suspense, Fantasy
A suspenseful narrative of good and evil wrapped in parallel worlds with a unique love story, strong friendships, and glimpses of family ties with twists and turns…is the bonding legend of the Anam Cara real?

Devon Conchobar, a Celtic Guardian of Odin, a parallel world to Earth, carries a dark secret which now confronts him as he endeavors, with the help of his Guardian brothers, to prevent another portal breach that could destroy everything and everyone he loves, including strong willed Keira Cathbadh, with whom he experiences what could be the legendary bonding of the Anam Cara. Was it real, or his imagination?

Keira Cathbadh, lost her mother and father the majority of her Clan, in a portal breach on Odin. Devastated, she became the defacto leader of a small band of survivors, guiding them to a new life on Earth. Her determination to keep them safe and record their historical library leads her to an unexpected encounter with the one man who can help her face a new enemy and possibly open her heart. But will Keira be able to forgive Devon's secret? Or resist the bond of the Anam Cara?

C. M. Bethell is an avid traveler and voracious reader of multiple genres with interests in Celtic myths, shapeshifters, vampires, parallel worlds, Guardians and immortals. Her current series is based on Anam Cara lore with a touch of romantic suspense and a little paranormal thrown into the mix. Bethell enters a new journey as a writer and invites you to come - Enter My World...

Research, what I learned and how the names for the character were found…
by C. M. Bethell

My first draft for this story was closer to Lord of the Rings, with elves and fairies, shape-shifters and such. A horrible mess and put away for many years while I traveled. After the realizing I knew nothing about writing a novel, I took several online writing classes.

In 2008, I got serious and enrolled in an intense class by Margie Larson, Empowering Character Emotions. We were instructed to find a critique partner among our classmates. This was a huge turning point for me; inspiration and a friendship that has lasted long after the end of the class. Another lull due to family health issues, travel, and more years passed.

Devon saw the light whenever I’d settle for a while or a new idea struck. Like the Celts. I burned up Amazon buying books on the Celts. Histories, cultures, Gaelic word translations, legends, myths, druids, stories…. I studied their heroes, the clans, different areas they ruled until the Romans came to overthrow them all. The character names, the clans, and bloodlines, etc, came from those books.

I admit, I’m a panster. No outlines, no charts, no sticky notes, except a calendar. My critique partner turned me on to using one. It helps keep the timelines straight. I type on my computer and create chapters. Characters come too me as I write. They develop, change, and grow as ideas simmered in my brain. New characters arrive. They wake me at night. In the middle of their conversations, or to tell me a tidbit about themselves. I have a pad and pen by the bed. If I don’t take notes by morning it’s gone.

After a long journey, the Guardians, trained to protect the portals between Odin and Earth, finally came to fruition. THE BREACH – Book One -Devon published this year and has turned into a series…
