Book Tour and Giveaway: Twisted Tales of Deceit (Beyond the Chamber Door Book 1) by P.D. Alleva

Welcome to my stop on the virtual book tour for the dark fiction novel Twisted Tales of Deceit by P.D. Alleva organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. On my stop, I have an excerpt and a guest post for you. Be sure to follow the other stops on the tour here. There's also a giveaway at the bottom of this post. Good luck!
Twisted Tales of Deceit is the first installment in the Beyond the Chamber Door series. Featuring three tales (The Calculated Desolation of Hope, Somnium, & Knickerbocker) chronicling an evil influence on the human psyche, tipping our hands into the engagement of what is most horrifying; our dastardly, human deeds steeped in self-destruction, desperation and the loss of dreams. Metaphorical warnings have been constructed inside these pages to reflect the everyday signs the universe provides under the guise of reflective light that return to mirror how evil tempts our hand so to not fulfill the dreams of the soul. Our doubts, our sadness, our indecisions rooted in fear, are toiled with by the presence of imps bent on hatred and in need of our nightmares to survive. Here, the human spirit is dripped like honey, tasteful to the dark corridors of human malevolence and taken advantage by the corrupt and seamlessly endless parade other worldly dimensions have on what should be our earthly utopia, creating rage in the cosmic hedonism of jealousy.

Excerpt:
“Jim?” Charlie said. “Jim are you there?”

He stared into the mirror, hoping Jimmy would talk. But the room was too bright, and Charlie remembered that Jimmy liked the dark, so he turned off the light, lit a candle which he placed on the sink by the mirror, which started to waver, like a stone dropped into water causes circular ripples.

“There you are,” Charlie said and smiled. “I was beginning to think you wouldn’t come.”

“Charlie,” Jimmy said. “I grow tired of you. You bore me too much with these dreams of yours you never do anything about. Wouldn’t it be better if you forgot about it? Went and took up a trade career, something where you don’t have to dream so big? I don’t want you to have to be disappointed.”

“But we’ve come so far, we can’t give up just yet.”

Jimmy touched his forehead shaking his head. “I just don’t know Charlie, you don’t seem like you want it enough. Like you’d do anything to have it. Don’t you know that dreams remain dreams unless you do something to capture them in your hand.”

“But I do…I write and read all the time, go to classes like I’m supposed to…”

“Class? Charlie really, schools where you hide not venture forth. Oh Lord Charlie you’re such a fool. Such a damn fool! I feel I’m wasting my time with you…and it’s been such a long road helping you.”

“But the lady,” Charlie said. “Remember the lady, the fortune teller, she said I’d make it if I passed the test…”

Guest post:
What is the scariest thing you have witnessed?

Such a loaded question. Every time I turn on the news a shiver of fear runs through my bones. As I’m writing this post another shooting has taken twelve lives, now that’s scary. Frightens me to my core. So does a nation divided and the fact that people are allowing politics to dictate their treatment of others, including friends and family and it scares me right out of my mind. Not that I don’t believe everyone is entitled to speak their mind, but outlandish vengeance over differing belief systems is just outright wrong.

I don’t like to sound pessimistic either, I’ve been called the eternal optimist by people who know me best, but where does this all end? When we get what we want and lick our lips over seeing the other side kowtow under a non-compromising barrel of a gun? Have we ever heard the old saying, Divide and Conquer? It seems that all that’s happening out there in good old America is dividing us to the extent where we’ve lost our ability to not only compromise but to generally be kind and accepting of each other’s opinions and values. Even the dark ages were kinder than the world we’re living in.

The scariest thing I’ve ever witnessed is every time I walk out the door to my house and enter the world. There’s an angry and vengeful vibration out there in the streets and if your tuned into vibrations and particle waves you can feel it. It’s a low vibration, dumbing down the population that doesn’t know any better and only sees red in everything they do. Anger breeds anger and fear is a second cousin to anger. When people are fearful they begin to hate anything outside their way of thought, outside of their belief systems, throwing labels on people that shouldn’t exist. As Yoda says, “Hate leads to suffering.” I’ve seen too much suffering in my life to want any part of it to continue.

I’m a trauma therapist. Having experienced more than a few trauma’s myself drives my purpose to help other people through these life-changing experiences. Scary is a father who molests his daughter, who teaches his son to do the same and gives permission to his son to pimp her out to his friends. That’s frigin scary. In fact its down right evil and evil is the corrupted sinister mind that did the same to the father. Trace it back over time and you’ll find that evil or the devil or demon or imp or whatever we want to call it so evil can be labeled to make ourselves feel better, and you’ll find a never ending pattern of lives spent in hell. What scares me the most is when does it end and does it actually have an end? Only time can tell, until then I’ll keep reaching out helping hands to walk hand in hand hoping to guide the truly suffering to a better place and pray they find the light that can deliver them from evil. The devil is the person who refuses to change knowing they need to. Refusing to accept and walk through the darkness to put down all their sinister actions. If nothing changes nothing changes.

I could have written about any number of truly scary things I’ve witnessed. Ghosts, people battered and beaten right in front me, dark influences or even evil demons attempting to impress evil deeds of sin. I could write about the powerful and corrupt and added conspiracy theories about the controlling industries attempting to turn us into a zombified nation under the thumb of control, however, the world and what we see everyday is scary enough. All the others make for great fiction.

Have the courage to be true to yourself, inserting into the world a healthy, love and compassionate vibration that becomes infectious to all around you. Most people don’t understand what true evil is, we collect and ascertain injustices and take a stance and opinion on what should be done to fix the issue, but when we downright turn our backs against people whom we know have good hearts, we feed into the vibration of hate. When we place labels on people and even label ourselves without any recourse to understanding, compassion and empathy, we become no better than that father whose become blinded to the difference between right and wrong and good and evil. A unified grateful front is a strong line that can’t be broken. If you want to know, see and feel what unity is I highly suggest attending a Pearl Jam concert.

Be kind to each other; show your kids to do the same. Find what makes you happy, truly happy and do no ill will towards yourself, others or society. Live in unity not separation.

Special thank you to All the Ups and Downs for the opportunity.

  11. My question for the author is where do you get your ideas for the covers.

    1. Good question. My aim for all my covers is to convey the story's meaning. For this particular cover it was difficult since there are three stories in the book and it's the first installment in the Beyond the Chamber Door series, so I wanted to put a little something on the cover for all three stories and to introduce the series, hence the Chamber Door on the front cover opening to the woods to represent the featured story Knickerbocker (the end of this story takes place in Sleepy Hallow Cemetery), the spooky looking demon standing in the doorway represents Jimmy in Somnium and the back cover was reserved for The Calculated Desolation of Hope, which takes place in an abandoned home in the middle of nowhere where devils, spirits and wolves manipulate the young to devour their hearts and dreams. Honestly, I've always been lucky with the covers for my books, they've all exceeded my expectations. I'm grateful to have worked with some very talented graphic artists. Ty for the question.
