Adam turns to his friend Dr. Sabrina Fleming—a professor at the local university with unparalleled computer security and forensics skills—to recover the files from the laptop. But the deeper they dig, the deadlier the investigation becomes. When evidence uncovers a human trafficking ring and implicates members of Adam’s own family, he and Sabrina will have to risk everything to solve the case.
The truth could set hundreds free—but someone is willing to do whatever it takes to silence anyone who threatens to reveal their secrets. Award-winning author Lynn H. Blackburn invites readers back to Carrington, North Carolina, where everything is not as it seems, and sinister elements lurk behind the idyllic façade.

What was the hardest part of writing this book?
Getting Dr. Sabrina Fleming’s character figured out! Thankfully an expert in cybersecurity was willing to answer tons of questions and random emails to help me get a handle on what was realistic for her to be able to do. He sent me pictures of labs, described how to recover data from damaged hard drives, and explained the dark web! I couldn’t have brought her to life without his help!
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
My favorite part about this book, and the entire series, is the interaction between the six main characters. I love the friendship and bond between them, and how it has grown over the course of these books.
What do you like to read in your free time?
Romantic suspense is my favorite genre. I also read historicals, mysteries, YA, fantasy, and most recently I discovered steampunk and I’m looking forward to finding new steampunk authors to love. Depending on my mood, I’ll read just about anything except horror.
What projects are you working on at the present?
Right now, I’m putting the finishing touches on the third book in this series and finishing a shorter novel that I started a few years ago.
What do your plans for future projects include?
I’m developing a new series but it’s still in planning stages and I can’t talk about it yet!
What does your perfect writing spot look like? Is that what your ACTUAL writing spot looks like?
My perfect writing spot is the beach. I love to write to the sound of the ocean. But that almost never happens. My actual writing spot is either my office at home, my favorite coffee shop, Panera, or our local library quiet room.
Do you have any strange writing habits or writing rituals you’d like to share with your readers?
Before I start, I almost always check my email and social media accounts (can you say procrastination!) and then I close them and set the Do Not Disturb function on my computer. Sometimes I use the Freedom app to completely lock me out of the Internet while I’m working so I’m not tempted to waste thirty minutes on Twitter!
Then I pray and ask God for wisdom and creativity and the right words.
If I’m at home in my office, I usually have some essential oils going in the diffuser and no matter where I am my favorite writing fuel is coffee and peanut butter M&Ms, but I try not to indulge in the M&Ms all the time.
