Crazy Scottish Love
(Love in Scotland #1)
Jessie Donovan

Adult, Comedy, Romance
Tired of the online dating scene and her nagging mother, Donella Spencer braves her eccentric extended family and heads for a month-long visit to Scotland to stay with them. As long as she keeps to herself and avoids her family as much as possible, it should be easy to relax, right?

What she doesn’t count on is running into Robbie Campbell, the guy who tried so hard to ditch her nearly twenty years ago that it took a search and rescue team to save her. Not only that, she doesn’t expect to fall for Robbie’s daughter’s big, brown eyes and agree to hold a themed costume party for Donella’s 31st birthday. One that involves her relatives dressing in nineteenth century safari garb and dusty, old animal outfits.

And none of that even begins to address her grandmother’s attempts to matchmake and marry off Donella within the month.

It’s going to be one long, trying summer in Scotland. However, sometimes the strangest situations can show what someone needs in life. Because if Donella falls in love with a man who can put up with her family, she may finally have her happy ending in sight.

Provided her relatives don’t drive her crazy first.

A car came into view and he pushed aside all dreams and worries. Since the make and model of the car matched what he'd seen in a picture sent via text, it meant Paris and Donella had arrived.

Exiting the car with their supper in hand, he waited for Paris to park and he met Donella's gaze through the front windscreen.

With her hair pulled back and a smile on her lips, she was bloody beautiful.

Donella jumped out and tried to casually stroll over to him. Biting back a smile, he said, "You're late." He took in her jeans and T-shirt, adding, "And I'm curious as to why since you can't blame your family for stopping you at the door and forcing you into different clothes. I suspect your gran wouldn't approve of your outfit."

She raised her brows. "Are insults our form of greeting?"

"It wasn't an insult. I prefer you dressed the way you are."

A blush filled her cheeks, and she cleared her throat. "We had a flat tire." She pointed to the dark smudges on her shirt. "Let's just say it gave us a bit of trouble."

Paris chimed in from the driver's seat. "Aye, it was a stubborn bastard. But I delivered Donella as promised, so I'm off."

Robbie reached out and gently pulled Donella out of the way so Paris could reverse her car out. He loved how Donella instantly leaned against him, trusting him at her back without a second thought.

He moved his head forward a fraction and inhaled deeply. The scent of vanilla made him want to pull her close and do more than merely hold her.

Donella looked up at him. "Are you sniffing me?"

"So what if I am?"

The corners of her mouth twitched. "Then I'd say maybe you've been hanging around your dog too much. Keep it up and you might turn into one. Just avoid lifting your leg and marking your territory for the evening."

Donella was definitely different from any other lass. He was half-tempted to unzip his fly just to see her reaction.

Deciding that might be too much for a first date, he chuckled and instead moved his hand to her waist. "The thing about dogs is that they have fairly simple lives. Eat, sleep, defecate, and if they're not neutered, sex. That could be a nice life, when you think about it."

She turned to face him, tilting her head. "True, not to mention they don't have to worry about opinions or sneak away so they can avoid nosey relatives. They just do what they want, and people even clean up after them. I'll admit that would be nice not to have a care in the world."

He ran his hand up her ribcage, her shoulder, her neck, and finally cupped her soft, warm cheek. "But there is sadness, too. People take away their children, for one. And they don't live very long. Just imagine finding your match and barely having them for a decade or so."

"Why Robbie Campbell, you're being romantic."

He raised an eyebrow. "Someone has to be. After all, you started the conversation by comparing me to a dog."
